This was originally going to be one of those ‘what to pack for your business trip’ posts, but let’s be honest I haven’t gone on too many of those and I didn’t want to fake the front like I had. In fact, I searched a bunch of them on Pinterest to help me out with what to pack. This week starts my 10 weeks of flying back and forth between Nashville and Houston until I make my official move in August, so I needed to get a system down fairly quickly.
I usually travel with my pink 21-inch carry-on and a backpack, but. I decided to go a different route this time since I’d be traveling with two laptops (personal and work) along with my iPad. I didn’t want to have all of that weight on my back so I used my smaller personal-sized suitcase and brought that on the plane and checked my pink suitcase. Shout out to Southwest’s ‘2 Free Bags’ policy. But I’m sure y’all didn’t click this post to find out what kind of luggage I used for this trip, you’re more concerned about what’s in them. So let’s get to the good stuff. Okay, full disclosure, I have a habit of over-packing and I really tried not to this time. Plus I can always downsize after this trip since I’ll be back every other week!
Dresses/Skirt – I packed 2 dresses for this trip, both midi and both from Target. It’s still a little cool so they’re both long-sleeved but I can roll them up. What I love about wearing midi dresses to work is that they’re perfect for what I do, whether I’m sitting in the office or walking tenant spaces and I can dress them up or down. I also packed a fun maxi skirt that I can pair with a plain v-neck tee.
Tops – I packed 2 blouses and a couple of v-neck tees as well. I can wear the blouses with my slacks or with my skinny jeans and it’s both work appropriate and great for a night out.
Bottoms – I packed a pair of black slacks that I can wear with both blouses as well as a pair of dark denim skinny jeans. In fact, I love these jeans so much that I bought 2 pairs. I only packed one pair for this trip though.
Accessories – I packed 2 pairs of flats and a pair of slip-on sneakers that I wore on the flight. I wear these flats to work all the time and can interchange them with my outfits. Plus they didn’t take up a lot of space in my luggage. I also packed my skinny belt. The dresses I packed can be shapeless, and this belt helps accentuate my waist. Plus it breaks up the color and ties in my leopard flats.
Underwear/PJs – Like many of y’all I tend to overpack underwear. I always pack enough panties to change at least twice a day, and that didn’t change for this trip. I did however only pack 2 bras. I’ve really been loving the wireless bra kick that I’ve been on since last year and that’s exactly what I packed for this week. I also packed a pj short set and a romper to sleep in. Something light and comfy is always nice after a long work day.
Toiletries/Makeup – I packed travel-sized versions of my face wash, toner, moisturizer, sunblock (VERY IMPORTANT), deodorant, lotion, body wash and setting spray. I also decanted some hair crème and gel and threw in my boar brush and hair accessories in there. I was able to sneak through my regular toothpaste and I was shocked but happy about that. I’ve been loving my Quip toothbrush since last summer so of course that came along, and I packed the basics of makeup. I’ve really been embracing the whole concealer and brow look recently, but I want to do a soft beat for my first couple days of work. At least that’s the plan.
Gadgets & etc. – Like I mentioned earlier, I had to bring 2 laptops this trip as well as my iPad, Bluetooth keyboard (which I’ll be leaving at the office here). I also packed the nameplate that I’ve had since I joined the company in December 2017. It’s traveled with me between properties in Houston so it’s only right that I bring it here to Nashville. I needed optical options so I packed an additional pair of regular glasses and my favorite pair of prescription sunnies. If you know me in real life then you know I have 50-11 travel mugs so I packed one of my favorite ones and my milk frother that I’ll be leaving at the new office. Throw in the appropriate chargers, headphones, and my Firestick (because I can’t imagine being in a hotel for a week without it) and you’ve got my whole kit! I might end up leaving this Firestick at the office so I don’t have to fly it back and forth, we’ll see.
Writing this out makes it sound like it’s more than it actually is, but like I said I can always scale back on future trips. Plus I’ll be leaving some of this stuff at the office here so I won’t have to fly it back and forth. Feel free to click the image above if you want to shop any of these items!
