If you follow me on Spotify then you probably noticed that I’ve been listening to “So Done” by Alicia Keys and Khalid pretty much on repeat for the past week. Y’all know how I am, I’ll find a song that I like, listen to it ad nauseam for a few weeks, add it to a few playlists, and then slowly wean myself off of it. This time is no different.
I actually discovered this song via Avery Wilson’s cover and fell in love with the melody in the second verse. Something about the vocal acrobatics does it for me, and when I found out that his version was just a cover I had to go find the original. Alicia Keys’ music has been a hit or miss for me for a while. I haven’t loved a whole project of hers since ‘As I Am’ in 2007. Now, this doesn’t mean that I haven’t liked individual songs on the albums that followed that project, but I haven’t listened to any albums in full since ‘As I Am’. I took a chance and listened to a few more songs from her most recent project, ‘ALICIA’ since I like “So Done” so much and was pleasantly surprised that I liked a few more tracks from it. “Jill Scott” and “You Save Me” are some stand-out tracks and I even like the single with Miguel, “Show Me Love” is also good. I decided to add those to my existing ‘Alicia Keys Mix’ playlist and share that with y’all today. These are some of my standout favorites of hers throughout the years, songs I love to belt along with, and even songs that have made me cry in the shower. Take a listen below and let me know if any of these are your favorites by her or if some of these are new to you!
