Y’all might have noticed that I’m back in the office part-time now…well more like 75% of the time! It’s only 4 of us who sit in my office and it’s big enough for us to socially distance while we’re there so we rotate work from home days and the rest of the time we’re in the office. I’m still getting adjusted to seeing so many people in a day, but I’m liking being back in the office. I can do quite a bit of my job remotely, but I need to be onsite for certain things. It’s kind of hard to walk my construction sites remotely.
Plus I love the “best of both worlds” feeling now. The office and building are still technically quieter, but now I have my double monitors, I’m able to put my eyes on my floors and construction immediately, etc. There were a few work from home habits that I really liked and wanted to bring into the office with me, and maybe y’all will want to adopt a few.
Brewing my own coffee – I would treat myself to a coffee from Starbucks or another local coffee shop like twice a week prior to COVID, but that changed when we started working from home. I found a brew that I liked and even discovered that I don’t necessarily need creamer anymore. I’ve started using some flavored syrup and milk with my coffee and I love it!
Comfortable clothes – I have another post in the pipeline featuring some Fall outfits for work, but I told myself that I was going to embrace the comfy-ness and bring that into my business casual attire for work. This means that I’ve been wearing dresses, maxi skirts, and loose blouses to work and I think that’s a trend I’m going to stick to for a while.
Written To-Do Lists – Really to-do lists in general. I used to rely on my Outlook tasks and flagged items as well as a few sticky notes or in OneNote, but one of the things I found myself doing while working from home was using the daily planning and to-do list pages that I bought for my Happy Planner and writing them out. There was something satisfying about being able to physically cross them off as I completed them. Something I wasn’t getting by just checking the “complete” box in OneNote.
Using my AirPods for conference calls – Sometimes it was easy for me to connect my computer to my Bluetooth speaker for calls, but for the most part, I would use my AirPods so I was free to move around and still able to participate in the call. I’ve found myself still reaching for them now that I’m back in the office versus dialing in from my desk phone; and for the same reason. I don’t know about y’all, but unless I need to be tied to my desk for note-taking I like to pace while on these calls. It’s an easy way for me to ensure I get my daily steps in too!
