I know I’m supposed to have a ‘Le Haute Paire’ episode go live today, but I have not voice y’all. Like for real, no voice. It left on Friday and hasn’t returned, which is incredibly rude. I didn’t want to chance it so instead I’m going to share Tory Lanez’ new project with y’all.
Tory’s not an artist that I typically flock to. He has a few bops that I’ll sing along with whenever they come on, but I wasn’t desperately waiting on a new project from him. In fact, I actually found out about this “mixtape” when someone else posted about it on Instagram. The first track I heard was “Still Waiting” featuring Trey Songz and my ears perked up. I could immediately tell that he’d sampled “Can’t Help But Wait” but didn’t realize that Trey was actually on the song. Then I checked out the album and realized that that was his formula for the whole album! Tory went through and sampled some of our favorite R&B and rap tracks from the late 90’s and early 2000’s, picked a line or two out of the songs, wrote a song based off those lines and got the original artists to drop a new verse on his “remake”!
Mind. Blown.
He had JD and Jagged Edge with “The Trade”, T-Pain with “Jerry Sprunger”, Mario with “The Cry”, Mya with “Best of You” and more! Y’all, this was my childhood on one album! Between this project and Summer Walker’s “Come Thru” with Usher, I’m good!
I’ve listened to this project pretty consistently since this weekend, so I knew that I had to share it with y’all. Take a listen below and feel free to add your favorites to whatever playlist you’re currently listening to!
