Today’s collaborative post is about something that’s making a comeback in our society; working from home! It might not be traditional, but it’s definitely becoming more popular and it’s not a bad idea depending on which industry you’re in!
For decades, the done thing has been to find an employer, apply for a job, pass the interview and then travel between home and work on working days to business premises located in the middle of town. But that wasn’t how things always were. Yes, some people always traveled to work – especially those in government or the army. But historically, the vast majority of people worked from home.
Before in the industrial revolution, most people worked on the land that they owned. They used it for all kinds of things, but mainly growing crops that they would then eat themselves or sell to others for food that they needed. It was only with the advent of the industrial revolution that factory owners began aggregating lots of people in one place to operate the machinery. People didn’t necessarily want to leave their own plot of land.
But what the industrialists began soon became enmeshed in our culture and leaving the house to go to work became the done thing. Everyone, except for the most specialist of workers, went to some big premises, whether an office, shop or factory, and did their work there.
Unfortunately, there were substantial costs involved in this mode of work; commuting being one of them. Let’s take a look at why working from home is such a great lifestyle choice.
Every Hour You Work, You Profit – Many people accept commuting as part of life. But if you think about it, the commute wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the work itself. Even though it’s not paid, it is still a cost for the person doing it. The time spent commuting could be spent doing something else. When you work from home, you avoid the commute altogether, meaning that you can get up in the morning, grab a coffee, and start doing something productive immediately. Then, when you’ve finished your work, you don’t have to face a commute home. It’s a great solution.
You Still Get Excellent Support – People who imagine working from home often worry about the level of support that they will receive. But modern digital tools are now so powerful that it’s easy to get the help you need, as and when you need it. Take eSudo Technology Solutions, Inc, for instance. The company says that it’s now possible to remotely manage practically every software tool that you might want to use, from Office 365 to desktop virtualization and server migrations. With modern IT tools, nothing is stopping you from having the same computer setup at home as you’d have in the office.
You Don’t Have To Deal With Office Politics – When most people think about what affects them most about their work, it’s often the office politics: the constant jostling for position and power at work. When you work from home, you remove yourself from all of that and can focus on making yourself valuable to somebody. The more helpful you make yourself, the more likely you are to win additional clients or grab a promotion to a more senior position.
