Is anyone here? I’m back after a week’s hiatus (a much needed one at that), and I’m dragging this Monday morning! I’ve talked about my sleep schedule on here before; I’m typically in bed by 9:30PM and asleep by 9:45PM on weeknights and Sunday nights. That way I’m fully rested and able to tackle the next day. Well that wasn’t the case this past weekend. In fact, every weekend since Portland has been jam packed and it caught up with my body this morning. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed my weekend activities. Brunches with friends, concerts, weddings, masterclasses and more have brought me all kinds of joy, but my body is BEYOND exhausted! I plan on getting to bed a bit early tonight to help with that, but in the meantime I wanted to share some tips with y’all in case you’re having a Monday like mine or you find yourself in this situation in the future. These have helped me power through a morning at work many times before so they’re tried and tested tips!
Drink water. I try to start my morning with a 8 oz glass of cold or room temp water to get all of the organs moving. I chug it while I’m doing my makeup and listening to the morning news or dancing along to a morning mix. This not only hydrates me, but tides me over until I eat breakfast.
Drink coffee. I try to have my first cup of coffee (warm or cold) within an hour of arriving to the office. I’ve been loving the cinnamon bun creamer from Aldi recently, so I make sure to leave a bottle in the fridge at work and that cuts down on my trips to Starbucks or our local coffee shop in the building.
Get moving. Whether it’s exercising or dancing, get your body moving. I have a quick 3 song mix that I can put on in the mornings when I’m really dragging and they’ll instantly change my mood. I dance like no one’s watching and try not to wake my neighbors with my singing.
Pump up the tunes. I’m a firm believer that music can change your mood. This morning I’m entertaining my half of the office with Broadway tunes, but I’ve also been known to bump 90’s R&B, country music and even Selena’s classic in the office.
Eat breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day for a reason. It doesn’t have to be anything big, but you should definitely get something in your stomach in the mornings. Plus this keeps you from being hangry, and no one wants to be hangry.
What do y’all do to turn your Mondays around? I’m always looking for new tips to help me turn around a slow morning.
