Fat Tuesday is tomorrow, and if you’re like me then you’re spending the day at work. I know a lot of people celebrated this past weekend in Galveston, and some of the lucky ones got to celebrate in New Orleans. I’ve done both. I’ve marched in the Mardi Gras parade in Galveston and celebrated the holiday in NOLA with friends. I don’t do crowds that well, and the crowds during Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday especially, are on another level. I don’t know if I’ll be celebrating Fat Tuesday there again anytime soon, but I do like to recognize the day at work.
Now I don’t recommend you starting the day with a hand grenade and going from there, but there are a few work-appropriate ways to celebrate.
Have a slice of king cake. Do the office a favor and bring one in, especially if you found the baby in the last one. It’ll bring a smile to everyone’s face and pair great with their coffee.
Wear beads and pass them out. Keep it classy, don’t make anyone work for the beads. And if you can’t wear them then hang a few up at your desk or in your office.
Blast the jazz. Mardi Gras isn’t Mardi Gras without the music. Time to bust out those big band jazz classics as the soundtrack for your day.
Enjoy a Cajun classic for lunch. Gumbo, etouffee, red beans and rice, whatever your heart desires.
A little nightcap never hurt anyone. Save your drinking for when you’re off the clock. Whether you’re hitting up a local bar for happy hour or pouring a bourbon when you get home it doesn’t hurt to end the night with an adult beverage.
Laissez le bon temps rouler!!
