Black History Month is already off to an epic start. Now I know that I usually drop some Black History Month facts on y’all, and this year is no different. This week’s facts involve the entertainment industry!
First up is Marsai Martin. You might recognize her as ‘Diane’ from the ABC hit, ‘Black-ish’. She’s the quick-witted middle-child on the show that we’ve grown to love, the twin that keeps everyone on their toes. Well, this year she’s making history as the youngest executive producer in Hollywood history. Not just the youngest Black executive producer, but the youngest executive producer period! I look forward to seeing her, Issa Rae and Regina King in ‘Little’ when it debuts in theaters in April; I can already tell it’s going to be good!
Black Panther is still making history, a whole year later. It’s been nominated for numerous awards and I’m definitely looking forward to see how many Oscars it will receive, but the one that sticks out most to me is the one for ‘Best Picture’. It’s the first superhero movie to have been nominated in that category!
Boz Saint John is still out here give us all of the ‘Black Girl Magic’ goals. With huge companies like Apple, Uber and now Endeavor it was only a matter of time before someone decided that the world needed to know more about her. That someone being Boz herself. She’ll be hosting and producing a docuseries about her life on Starz called ‘Bozoma: Being Badass‘ because that’s exactly what she is. I cannot wait for the debut and please believe I’ll be tuning in every week.
I saw this meme floating around on Instagram and Facebook last week and it couldn’t be truer. We celebrate just how dope we are as a people all year, February is just our anniversary month.
