I don’t know about y’all, but I don’t get sick often. In fact, I can count on one hand how many times I’m typically out for the count because I’m sick. Well I don’t know what happened but this past week was one of those times. My nose tickled a bit last week, and then Saturday it hit me like a ton of bricks. I wasn’t feverish and didn’t have chills, but I was SO CONGESTED. I thought it was a 24 hour thing, especially since Houston’s weather is so unpredictable so I didn’t go to the doctor that day, but when I was worse on Sunday I knew that I had to do something.
I’m feeling better now, but I wanted to share a few tips with y’all to help you rebound just as quick or maybe quicker than I did. Now I know that you might think that some of these are common sense, but I was told at a young age that common sense ain’t so common.
Go to the doctor – Nowadays it’s super easy to see a doctor quickly. You don’t have to make an appointment with your GP or PCP, you can go to a minute clinic or even do what I did and see your doctor online. By day two I knew that I had a sinus infection, but I wanted to be sure so I logged into LiveHealth and saw a doctor. Yes, online. We had a video appointment and she was able to diagnose me and write a prescription! That wasn’t my first experience with a virtual doctor’s appointment, I’ve used MDLive in the past and had a great experience with them. So whether you’re visiting a brick and mortar doctor’s office, going to a local pharmacy’s minute clinic or seeing a doctor virtually go see someone.
Take your meds – Like I said, I know this might sound like common sense but folks will start feeling better and not finish their prescription. Finish your prescriptions, y’all! The last thing you want to do is get sick again because you didn’t finish the round of antibiotics that you were supposed to finish. And be mindful with mixing OTC drugs with your prescriptions. Speak with your doctors or pharmacists and make sure that it’s okay to take certain combinations.
Rest – Let your body rest. This is the perfect time to be a sloth and chill. Catch up on your Netflix or DVR queue. Read a book. Sleep. Let your body heal while you rest.
Soup and fluids – Do you remember that chicken noodle soup recipe I shared last week? Well I made that on Sunday because I knew that I would have to eat something while I was sick. It was super easy and was so delicious. I ate on it all week and it was just what the doctor ordered. Also make sure that you’re getting your fluids. Water, tea, ginger ale, juice and more water. Keep your body hydrated!
Clean your place afterwards – I plan on doing a deep clean this upcoming weekend now that I’m feeling better. I made sure to use a throwaway toothbrush while I was under the weather so I can just toss it this weekend. Wash all bedding, towels, makeup brushes if you had the strength to put on makeup that week (I sure didn’t), etc. Light a candle and breathe in all that goodness!
I hope these help y’all, they definitely helped me this past week. And I’m always trying to learn more ways or home remedies so feel free to drop some down in the comments below!
