I supported a few friends this past weekend; a happy hour for one who graduated with her M.Ed, and cheering for another who had a singing gig! Doing all of that remind me of an Instagram post a little over a week ago from Myleik where she talked about supporting her friends that touched my spirit. I really wish that I would’ve screenshot her IG stories, but I didn’t so I’ll have to put my own spin on it and share it with y’all.
Support their businesses/passions – This doesn’t always have to be financial support. You might not be their target demo for their business, but a quick social share or name drop in the right room can work wonders. I have a few friends who do vinyl lettering and I’m always name dropping them and sending people their way. The same goes for friends who are in other industries, especially fellow bloggers and influencers. A quick ‘like’ or comment goes really far in campaigns! Brands want to see engagement and that’s free on your part.
Gas them up – Be the best hype (wo)man you can be! Did they accomplish something great at work? Send a congratulatory text or a box of Tiff’s Treats! Did they hit a major milestone in life like completing a secondary degree or get engaged/married/start a family? Show up to that celebratory happy hour and buy them a drink (unless they’re pregnant)! Be their biggest cheerleader.
Be a sounding board – I know that I discussed this a bit in the most recent ‘Le Haute Paire’ episode, and I definitely recommend making sure that they have they’re in the right mental space to take on the emotional load that’s about to be dropped on them. Sometimes people just need to vent or brainstorm and all that takes is a bit of time from you.
Lend your skills – I love collaborating with friends! We all have our strengths and at the end of the day two (or more) heads are better than one. I have a few friends who were trying to get into the commercial real estate industry and others who recently decided to start a blog. Now I’m no expert in either, but I have no problem sharing what I know.
Pray for them/Send good vibes their way – Another small thing that goes a long way. This doesn’t just have to be before something big in their lives, it can be a quick word up in your daily prayers or morning meditations.
