This has been an awesome year. I’ve grown in life, in my career, and on the blog. I continued recording ‘Le Haute Paire‘, in fact I’ll be dropping episode 20 tomorrow! I traveled, spent time with loved ones and even turned 30!! I wanted to share a few of my favorite highlights with y’all before we start the new year.
January
This was a big month for me with HAULYP! I received my award for November’s ‘Member of the Month’ and even got to take over the IG account for a day during Join Week!!
February
This was one of a few busy months this year. The rodeo was back in town and I got to go to the cook-off and a few shows with some loved ones! ‘Black Panther’ dropped and I saw it like 9 times (3 different times in one weekend) that month and quite a few times since. I even went to a Valentines Day concert with a friend where we came to the conclusion that we don’t need to Raheem Devaughn live again. He can sing his behind off, but I can do without the theatrics on stage.
March
Another busy month, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I started the month off taking the kids to see ‘Black Panther’ again, celebrated a friend’s birthday at a fabulous drag show, supported another friend at her husband’s fight, took advantage of the new ACRE at work and games like giant connect 4, Jenga, ping pong, and tic tac toe!
April
This month brought me to two concerts, Jagged Edge, Guy, Keith Sweat and 112 and a Selena tribute concert. I also had a few YP events that were awesome like the ‘Hack-a-Thon’ and the first ‘Women’s Empowerment Brunch’.
May
May was a FULL month. I saw Justin Timberlake a few times in Houston and Dallas, spent a week in Thailand, gave my step-mom a gorgeous canvas for Mother’s Day and even saw HAMILTON!! I felt like I was always on the move that month, and it continued on into the next one.
June
Another month, another concert. This time it was Day26 (and their million and one opening acts)! I went to a few throwback-type concerts this year and it was nice to be able to reminisce on the old days. I also went on my annual cousin trip, and this time it was a cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Mexico! We spent a week on that boat and it was the perfect relaxing trip. And that wasn’t all of the travelings I did that month. I went on a girl’s trip to New Orleans and ended the month with a quick weekend trip to Dallas to support the Dallas YP chapter for one of their annual fundraisers.
July
Another month, another trip and another concert. I went back to New Orleans with one of my girls for the Omega’s Conclave and we stayed in the most perfect house right by the Quarter. I legit want to book that house every time I go to New Orleans. I also attended a few Jack Daniel’s events and was reminded why it’s always great to be a #FriendOfJack! And remember those throwback concerts I was talking about earlier, I went to another one this month. Monica! I’ve loved her music for years and really enjoyed myself at her concert; I even sang along with all of her hits.
August
I TURNED 30!! I feel like I could end this recap with this, but I’m not. I found a new apartment and started that process this month and I celebrated my birthday with a long weekend in DC! I even had the chance to speak on a panel at HAAB’s annual blog conference and attended Amanda Seales’ ‘Smart, Funny and Black’ Houston tour stop.
September
I moved into my new apartment!! I’ve shared a bit about this on the blog, but it wasn’t the smoothest weekend and it took me a bit to get settled in. That was a pretty chill month for me; I covered the latest Pierre Jeanty book launch, went to a coding event at the Flatiron School and we even won a free lunch from Whataburger at work!
October
This month brought another concert (Halloween weekend no less) and another blog preview event for ‘Arts, Beats and Lyrics’ and Jack Daniel’s. I also had a chance to interview Orobosa Owie for ‘Le Haute Paire’!
November
I attended my second ‘Arts, Beats and Lyrics’ and covered it for the blog and after that, I kept things pretty low-key until Thanksgiving. My office is actually along the parade route and we had another tenant event on Turkey Day! We brought in bleachers, provided breakfast, coffee and hot cocoa and watched the Houston parade together! It was awesome!
December
This month started off with me taking one of my girls to my company’s holiday party and quickly turned into a ton of busy days with donations, holiday prep and spending time with loved ones. This has been an awesome year and I’m definitely looking forward to kicking off 2019 with a bang. I have an awesome podcast episode dropping tomorrow with a friend who recently started something really dope so make sure you come back tomorrow and check it out!
