It seems like everyone is back at school this week. Houston ISD along with a lot of the colleges and universities in town were the last ones to go and of course traffic has been a mess! My social media timelines and local morning news were full of kids in their first day of school outfits, and I have to say that it’s weird seeing both sides now. I’m old enough to have loved ones who are both educators and as well as loved ones who have school-aged children. I’ve had friends filling carts at stores with supplies for their students, working on their lesson plans, decorating their class and all of the other fun stuff that comes with the start of a new school year. And then on the flipside I’ve seen parents catching every back-to-school sale for clothes and supplies for their kids.
And don’t get me started on my friends who are continuing their own educational journey with undergrad and grad school. I tip my hat to them, especially if they’re working a full-time job on top of their course load. As much as I dislike the heavy traffic that comes with the start of a new school year, I love the wonder and excitement that goes with it. The new planners, new textbooks, new OneNote folders that are opened bring a smile to my face and typically prompt me to update my study mix.
I don’t know about y’all, but I can’t study in complete silence. In fact, if we’re being honest I can’t do anything in complete silence. I prefer listening to mellow music, neo-soul, smooth jazz, adult contemporary-type music and mainly songs that I already know so that I’m not focusing too much on them. I used to listen to specific genres and even albums when I would study for tests, but that’s a bit much for this post so instead I’ve compiled a few of my favorite songs to zone out and study to. Take a listen below and let me know if any of these are on your study mixes and if I should add any other tracks to this!
