It’s no secret that I’ll be turning 30 on Thursday so I wanted to switch things up a bit for today’s post. Today’s playlist might seem a bit all over the place, but these songs are special to me. Each one is either a current favorite, or it ties to a memory of the past.
For example, most people might have shared “Bye Bye Bye” or “It’s Gonna Be Me” from *NSYNC’s ‘No Strings Attached’ album, but I shared “Digital Get Down” because that’s the song we danced to for cheerleader try-outs when I was in middle school. Then there are the songs that remind me of my mom and my childhood like “Not My Kind of Girl”, “Najee’s Theme”, “Wifey” and “Return of the Mack”. I spent many a day running around the backyard at my aunt’s dancing to “Return of the Mack”. Oh, and don’t get me started on the significance “Before I Let Go” has on my life and the life of so many other Black families.
Other songs are new favorites, songs by Nick Jonas, Gallant and “Love U Better” by Ty Dolla$ign and crew are songs that I can’t not listen to on flights or while traveling. They get me hype! Oh, and I had to share one of my band songs with you guys. In fact, James Bond/Espionage was our theme my senior year of high school when I was head drum major so that theme will always have a special place in my heart and mind. I encourage you to take a listen below and let me know if any of these songs play(ed) a significant role in your lives!
