Last week one of my friends texted me and invited me to lunch on Saturday. She was coming into town with her husband and new nugget and I hadn’t seen them in ages so I said yes in a heartbeat.
Shout out to those of you who get the Disney reference.
I had to record an episode of ‘Le Haute Paire’, that’s right we’re back y’all, but I headed that way afterwards and it was like a mini reunion! We had great food, great drinks and truly a good time! I tried Hennessy and lemonade and actually enjoyed it. I’m still a Jack Daniels’ girl, but that drink was quite refreshing.
What I really loved was the fact that it felt like no time had passed. Yes, we’re well out of high school (as Hamilton kindly pointed out and then got “the look”), but we can still get together and it feel like a weekend night at Ryan’s house in our PJs. Our conversations have changed a bit, no longer are we talking about looking forward to freshman year of undergrad or Spring Break (there aren’t any more teachers in the crew), but they’ve switched to retirement plans, traveling and the perks of Global Entry vs Mobile Pass and children. We’re all at that age of family planning and it’s nice to be able to talk about how crazy it’s going to be at ‘OTR II’ here in Houston as well as how we plan on disciplining our kids.
I’m a firm believer in keeping people around you that help you grow. You want people to gas you up when you’re doing something well, but you don’t need to surround yourself with nothing but “yes (wo)men”. I’m very blessed that my crew is just that. We’ve been there for each other through a lot, and I truly love them. These are the girls I can dance on Bourbon street with and the girls I can ask to pray for me when I need to hear something. We’re all in different industries, which is awesome because we have someone who’s knowledgeable of just about every topic you could think of. It took me a second to relate to one of Jay-Z’s less famous lines, but I brag different now. My girls are baddies in their own right and they’re brilliant.
Get you a tribe that can do both!
