I had the chance to see ‘Hamilton’ last week and I have to say that it lived up to my expectation and the hype. I’d been dying to see it since it premiered in New York, but never got around to seeing it with the OBC. I was bummed out, but that all changed when they announced that there was going to be a traveling tour and that they were coming to Houston. I knew that I had to do everything that I could to get tickets and I was able to score a pair on Ticketmaster via resale that wasn’t too bad. We were in the gallery, but we were in the center and could see everything!
I’d been counting down the days since I bought the tickets on February 26th, so I was bouncing off the wall with excitement when it was finally the day of the show. We ended up getting tickets for the last week of the show’s run in town because that’s the only time that fit with our travel schedule and the house was packed!
I ran into some familiar faces and chatted a bit before going to the bar and grabbing a drink before the show as well as paying for our intermission drink. Our bartender loved us that night, Lee hooked us up and we ended up singing and dancing through the entire show. We ran into a couple during the intermission who hadn’t heard of the show until that week when they bought tickets, and that shocked me. I was under the impression that most of the people there were fans of the show and would be singing along like us, but I was wrong. Oh well, we still got our WHOLE lives while the cast entertained us.
I realized that it was one thing to listen to the soundtrack over and over (like I’ve been doing for years) and see it live. I have a new appreciation for Lin-Manuel and realized how trash our founding fathers were; so much lying, scheming and infidelity and these men were seen as gods of their time. Wow. Either way, I wanted to share the soundtrack with you guys again and encourage you to see the show live!
