I’ve talked about Todrick Hall on here before. I’ve said that he’s a musical genius whose talent is far beyond many of his peers. The songs, choreo and skits that he comes up with are out of this world and his new project reflects that.
He went a slightly different route with this project, and I’m so happy he did. He’s growing so it’s not uncommon to see growth in his music too. I’m not saying that he’s no longer going to be doing Disney covers, but I fully expected him to talk about more adult things with his new project.
I loved it. Like truly loved it. I sat down on my couch Friday afternoon and cut on the hour and a half long YouTube video and didn’t get or pause the video for the movie. Yes, I said “movie” because that’s what it is. It’s a story we’ve heard and seen before, just flipped on its head and it’s a story that Todrick was able to tell so well. I don’t want to give too much away, but I do want to tell y’all that Brandy, Keala Settle, Jade Novah, Cynthia Erivo, Tamar Braxton, and the rest of the guest stars did the damn thang on these tracks and someone needs to win an award for this production. Or two.
The album is currently available on iTunes (only) so buy it and then watch the video below. You won’t want to get up because it’s so good! I already have a few early favorites, “Play“, “Nobody“, “Type“, “Eleven“, “Animals” and “Painting in the Rain“.
