And we’re back for another edition of ‘Tuneage Tuesday’ featuring Justin Timberlake! This man has been working hard these past few months and it all led up to the release of his album last Friday and his half-time performance at the Super Bowl on Sunday. A performance where he mostly performed old songs and only one song from his new album, but that’s neither here nor there.
He teamed back up with Pharell and Timbaland for a lot of it, but the sound they created in the booth was different for all of them. It’s not a country album per se, but there was definitely some country influence in it. Justin said that the album was influenced by the South where he grew up, his family and his kid. In fact, it’s named after his son. Silas’ name literally means “of the woods”.
The album has 16 tracks, and by the February 2nd release date Justin had already dropped the audio and visual for a quarter of it. “Filthy” reminded me a lot of “Sexyback”, “Supplies” is a song I can definitely see people dancing to at parties, “Say Something” is one of my absolute favorites off of the album, especially the acoustic version in the video, and “Man of the Woods” is another favorite of mine. If you follow me on Spotify you probably saw that I had the album on repeat for most of the workday. Some songs stood out more so than others and there are a few that will have to grow on me, but overall I like the album and I’m looking forward to seeing him perform it live in concert.
I encourage y’all to take a listen below and let me know what you think about it. Especially my early favorites: “Say Something”, “Young Man”, “Man of the Woods”, “Montana” and “Morning Light”.
