Whew! For some reason I’ve been having super eventful weekends recently! Aside from popular, I’m actually an introvert so I try to take at least one day every weekend to recharge and that’s exactly what I needed to do after Friday and Saturday.
One of my former co-workers is in town from London so we got to hang out a bit on Friday and we had fun. We started our evening off with touring a new tenant’s space during their grand opening and then headed over to a local bar for dinner and drinks. It was like a mini reunion, because other former co-workers met up with us there and we truly had a ball.
Saturday started off with an early planning meeting for the financial accountability group that I’m in. We’re going into year 3 of in-person meetings and things are going really well. It’s the local “chapter” of a national organization and it’s really nice to be with like-minded individuals with similar goals and who are working towards achieving those goals. It was a super productive meeting! We set a loose schedule of the upcoming year’s monthly meeting topics and even discussed a few guest speakers we wanted to reach out to. I’m definitely looking forward to what 2018 has in store for the ‘Dream Catchers’. After my meeting I met up with Meg for a celebratory lunch at one of my favorite Cajun restaurants! We chatted a bit and enjoyed some delicious cocktails and food before I went home and took a nap before that night’s festivities. Y’all know I’m #YoungOld!
I kind of double booked myself, but that was okay. I started the night out at a former co-worker/good friend’s annual ‘Fais Do-Do’ Christmas party and caught up with a lot of people I haven’t seen in AGES!! I was there dressed for the club that I was going to afterwards while everyone else was in holiday pjs and ugly sweaters. I usually participate and wear festive clothes, but the party after that called for all black and I didn’t have time to change. I was only at Kelly and Justin’s party for about an hour and a half, but I had plenty of time to enjoy that good ‘ol gumbo they’re known for as well as boudin, a few drinks and even a game of ‘Tree Punch’! We have a traditional rivalry at the Fais Do-Do, 713 vs 409 (Houston vs the Golden Triangle), and when I left Houston was in the lead! #HoustonStrong
I hated to leave so early, but I had to head over to my cousins’ birthday shindig before the party bus that they booked left so I said my goodbyes and met up with my cousins at a hotel nearby. We boarded the party bus and hilarity and good times followed (and if you follow me on Snapchat you probably saw a bit of that). We rode around for a bit before pulling up at Grooves, and I didn’t know what to expect since I’d never been to that local bar before. One of the birthday girls told me that the venue would probably be empty since Saturday nights are often slow nights for them, but it got packed! Thank goodness we had a section or else I don’t think I would’ve stayed as long as I did. We danced, drank and turned up with the birthday girls and I bid the party farewell shortly before 1AM. At that point I was tuckered out, but knew that I wanted to get to Whataburger before they closed the walk in doors. I made it just in time and even stayed up to eat my food that night.
Sunday was a day of recovery and it was needed. Coffee, meditation, laundry and pasta were just what I needed to feel refreshed and take on this last week at my current gig. I have more to come on that later on this week, but I have a feeling that this will be an emotional week for me at work.
So, what did y’all get into this weekend? Was it as eventful as mine?
