Today’s my last day at my current company and it’s a bittersweet moment. I’ve spent the last 5 years on this account and with this company, and for the most part with the same team. This was my first gig out of school, my first “real” job and it was truly a learning experience. It’s an industry I knew nothing about commercial real estate, property management and definitely not project management when I started here so this was the perfect account to train on.
It’s a unique account where our team managed the capital projects as well as the physical property in Houston, and I got to experience both sides. I got to work with some of the nicest tenants and sweetest vendors (even the ones I had to whip into shape), and I’m definitely going to miss talking to them on a daily basis. Networking aside, I’ve developed some pretty awesome relationships with some of our vendors and tenants. In fact, I’ll be going to Thailand in May with one of my friends who I met because she works for one of the GCs we use.
And don’t get me started on my team(s) throughout the years. I’ve been told numerous times that I was truly blessed to not only work with an efficient team, but to get along with most of them. I truly enjoyed coming to work. We really gelled with each other and were able to not only get out work done, but repeatedly deliver results that were above and beyond what the client requested.
And we knew how to cut up together after hours. Between happy hours, holiday parties, concerts and movie nights these people wormed their way into my heart. Things look a bit different around here now, some people have moved on to other business opportunities, but we remained as close as ever and I’m sure that it’ll stay that way.
Words can’t even express how much love I have for this lady. Crystal has truly been a sister from another mister to me. We started here at the same time and have been a dynamic duo from the start. I was so happy when she selflessly decided to come back and join the team after Harvey devastated the city and campus. She’s truly a saint and I know that the team is in good hands with her.
My new gig is actually right up the street so I will definitely be popping up over here for random lunches and to check in on everyone, and we already have a few happy hours scheduled. Today’s going to be a bittersweet one, I’m already wishing I’d worn waterproof mascara because I know many tears will be shed when I say my goodbyes. This is a small industry so I know that this more like a “see you later”, not a “goodbye” but it doesn’t make this any easier. I’m super thankful for every lesson learned this past five years, every connection made and everyone I’ve come in contact with. Here’s to new beginnings!
