I’m excited share another collaborative post with y’all about one of my favorite things, winter vacations!
We all dream of a white Christmas, that is unless you already live in a world covered by snow. In the winter, snow seems to be associated the most with magic and festivity. Whether it’s sledging down a hill with your kids, having a snowball fight with your friends, or looking out upon a snowy landscape: snow is everywhere this season.
It’s no surprise to see why; it makes everything feel just that bit more magical, and makes us wish we could stay lost in the white depths forever. That’s why today we’ve compiled a list of fun places to visit in the snow this winter.
Bruges
Bruges, you may be surprised to hear, is World Heritage. Yes, the whole city was made World Heritage by UNESCO. The city is stunning, it is full of quaint houses and shops, cobbled streets- and has a rather medieval vibe to the place. It is a magical place which will make you reconsider playing on your phone all day, you’ll want to experience the whole thing first hand. What’s even better about this city is when it snows, it covers all of the streets, houses and shops to make the ultimate winter wonderland come to life. If the snow isn’t great enough as it is, you can also visit the chocolate factory and get your hands dirty making praline. This is the stuff of kid’s dreams.
Salzburg
If you are looking for some cool family snow activities to do this winter, get on over to Salzburg. It is the birthplace of Mozart and also home to Europe’s oldest Christkindlmarkt. Have fun watching shows such as the Nutcracker and Hansel and Gretel, walk around the snowy city and take the time to play in the snow. If your kids are badly behaved, a quick glimpse at Krampus will set them on the good path for the rest of their lives!
Vienna
Vienna is crazy for Christmas. In the winter, the city becomes a whirlwind of adventure and excitement. You’ll be able to go ice skating in the city centre, walk around the festive markets and take in the scenery, as well as go on a guided tour of the city and take in the light displays. At Christmas time, this city becomes a buzzing hub of life, and you will be able to take advantage of the full festive spirit they bring.
Amsterdam
If you want to see Santa sailing to announce the start of the festive season, then you’ll want to take a trip to Amsterdam. Amidst the snowfall, you’ll be able to watch Santa sail into the city to signify the arrival of Christmas. The city hosts plenty of festive markets, as well as a magical light festival which consumes the entire area. They also have a unique floating Christmas Tree market to get you into the festive spirit.
Bremen
Bremen will be a name you recognise if you ever read any of the Grimm fairy tales, as it is the only physical location ever mentioned in their books. This place is magical when covered in snow, and you will be able to enjoy the medieval vibe in the area, walk through the markets and even a real nativity scene. It is festive heaven and will make all of you more than ready for Christmas.
