I don’t even know how to begin this post today. I don’t know if I should start it off by talking about how talented Gallant is as a writer, how smooth his vocals are, or whether I should jump straight into sharing some of my favorite songs by him.
I’d heard “Weight in Gold” ages ago after first spotting it on one of my friend’s Spotify activity feed. I liked it but didn’t delve too much further into the album until a few weeks ago. It was the season finale of ‘Power’ in the final scene when Kanan, Tommy and James were pulling out of the parking lot when Gallant’s “Shotgun” started playing. I probably rewound that scene like 3 times to hear it again before I pulled out my Shazam app to figure out what song it was. From that moment on I was hooked on that song and album. I probably listened to it twice all the way through on that Sunday and have played it at least once a day since. In fact, I had it on repeat for the better part of my flights this past week. The tracks are super mellow and relaxing, the lyrics are profound and the melodies are beyond gorgeous.
I definitely want to encourage you guys to listen to the entire album, but if you only have time for a few tracks I recommend “Shotgun”, “Bone + Tissue”, “Bourbon” and “Counting”.
Let me know if you have any early favorites once you give it a listen.
