We got moved to a temporary office after our office got flooded out and after several trips back and forth between our powerless building and our new one we’re all set up. We’re sitting in a quasi-open concept, which is something I’m used to after my time in project management. While I don’t have everything that I had in our previous office I have the few key things I need to get my work done. I might be working on both a laptop and desktop and on two different networks, but these items help me keep a sense of normalcy in the office.
Reusable mug – I have 2 monogrammed Yetis on my desk, a larger one that I use for ice water and the other for my coffee. They’re cute, serve as a reminder to stay hydrated and it’s easier to fill up at the deli downstairs than a Styrofoam cup. And it doesn’t hurt that using these reusable mugs is better for the environment.
Multi-colored writing utensils – No, I’m not just referring to black, blue and red pens. I live a colorful life and my writing utensils should match. My desk caddy is overflowing with so many colored Sharpies, hi-lighters, and regular ink pens.
Sanitizer – Working in such close quarters with other people means that illnesses spread like a wildfire. I have a few co-workers who have younger kids so if something’s going around at their child’s daycare there’s a chance that it’ll spread to the office. The easiest way to prevent that is to keep hand sanitizer at the desk and use it constantly.
Two monitors – I didn’t realize how much I needed this until I worked from home. Oh my gosh, those things are a lifesaver! It makes things that much easier to do my job when I can have my inbox on one screen and our accounting system on another.
Spotify – Or what ever music service you like. I can’t work in silence so Spotify is an office necessity to me.
Phone Charger – I have both a wall charger and a Mophie for my phone. We’ve been on the go a lot these past few weeks and can’t have our phones dying so my Mophie phone case is an absolute must. Gotta keep it charged so I can tweet, ‘gram or snap my outings.
Supplies that matches my personality – I didn’t bring everything from my previous desk to my new office but I did make sure to my high-heeled tape dispenser and bright colored post-it notes. Why be plain when you can be jazzy?
It’s the little things that make me smile and make my day. What about y’all? What are some of your office necessities?
