I know that we’re still in recovery mode here in Houston, but we have to remember to take time and take care of ourselves. Whether that’s unplugging for an evening, treating yourself to an hour long massage or just giving yourself a much-needed facial take some time to just be.
We lost power at work when the buildings flooded so we were working without electricity and most importantly air conditioning (in the middle of summer in Houston) last week. After escorting tenants up and down numerous flights of stairs to their spaces and running after contractors I was physically exhausted and in dire need of a good facial. I recently picked up some masks and gave both of them a try. I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed with the both of them. I’m not sure which one I like more so I’ll keep using both, and just swap them out as I please.
I wear glasses normally, but I’m not able to wear them while I have the masks on. I’m the queen of multitasking and I can’t just keep still so I had to do things around the house that didn’t require me to have them on, and I wanted to share some of those with you. Both of these masks only call for me to leave them on for 10-15 minutes so most of these are quick tasks, but some will take a bit longer.
Unload and reload the dishwasher – I don’t know about y’all, but I live alone so I have to manage my household by myself. If the restroom’s dirty I’m the one who cleans it, I pay all of the bills, etc. When I was younger and living with my parents we had to hand-wash dishes, but now that I have my own place I use my dishwasher. Well with that comes remembering to unload it. It’s not a long process and I can usually knock it out while I’m letting a face mask dry. I know where everything goes so it’s not like I need my glasses to read anything and by the time I’m finished it’s time for me to wash my face.
Start a load of laundry – Another responsibility that comes with managing a household by yourself. It doesn’t take long to separate and start a load of laundry and you feel so accomplished once you have it going.
Fold a load of laundry – This is my least favorite part of doing laundry. I don’t mind washing and drying clothes, but putting them away and folding them is on the bottom of my weekly to-do list. Doing the task while I’m waiting for my mask to dry allows me to gamify it and time myself.
Start a Crockpot meal – I have a few go-to recipes that I make a few times a month and I can usually get those in my Crockpot in the time it takes for my mask to dry. A lot of recipes I’ve seen only require 15-20 minutes of prep work before you let the meal cook for 6-8 hours or whatever the recipe calls for.
Vacuum – My apartment isn’t that big so I can easily vacuum the carpeted areas in 10-15 minutes. When I’m finished I’ll have a clean face and floors and I call that a win!
