It’s the end of August and in South Texas that means we’re in the midst of back to school season. I’m not a parent yet so I don’t have to deal with kiddos early in the morning, but I did have to adjust my morning schedule to account for the additional vehicles on the road and the school zones. I still hit a few of those even though I mainly take highways to the office. I got so used to the additional 20-30 minutes in the mornings, and it was during that time that I would check emails and eat breakfast and watch the local news. Well I didn’t want to give up that extra time so I thought I’d alter my schedule a bit and share that with y’all.
Pick your clothes out the night before – I know what you’re thinking, this is supposed to be a morning routine but it starts at night. I wear somewhat of a “uniform” at work, it’s not enforced but it’s one less decision I have to make and it saves me so much time in the mornings! I simply grab a black dress and tights and I’m ready to go.
Get enough sleep at night – Making sure I get enough sleep at night will help me to not hit the snooze button in the morning. I’ve been on a sleep schedule for a while and it works for me. I get enough REM sleep and I wake up fully rested.
Get out of bed when the alarm goes off – I know it’s tempting to lay in bed just a little bit longer, but doing so will only encourage you to fall back asleep. So go ahead and rub that sleep out of your eye, do a big stretch and get out of your comfortable bed.
Eat breakfast – I cannot stress this enough. Breakfast is truly the most important meal of the day, not only does it give your body that early nourishment but it kick starts your metabolism. I’ve been on a yogurt kick recently and I’ve been loving these Dannon Oikos Nonfat Yogurt Drinks. I don’t always have to time to cook a full breakfast in the mornings so being able to grab one of these from the fridge and head out the door. I buy the 4-packs from my local Walmart and we all know how much I love saving money, so I make sure that I use my Ibotta app to get rebates!
Pump up the tunes – Nothing gets me moving more than good music and the right playlist is always a good idea in the morning. Spotify has a ton of great ones, but there’s a curated one that I always fall back on.
Whether you’re gearing up to sending your kids back to school, or just gearing up to deal with the traffic that’s about to be back on the road I hope these tips help y’all like they’ve helped me!
