I’m still recovering from my cruise, but I wanted to switch things up a bit this week. I know that I usually share a Spotify playlist with y’all but this week I wanted to share one of the podcasts I’ve been listening to on a regular basis.
I was first introduced to this podcast a few months back and was immediately hooked from the jump! It’s called ‘The Roommates’ and is hosted by roommates who essentially let us take a peek into their world once a week and share their thoughts on various topics. It seems like nothing’s off-limits with these guys and it’s truly refreshing to listen to their opinions on things like Black empowerment, relationships, hip hop culture, adulting, foreign politics, Christian theology, modern philosophy, sports, modern dating and entrepreneurship to name just a few.
The podcast is hosted by Hafeez, Chris, Sam, Khalil, and Emmanuel, five guys from different backgrounds, who somehow made their way to Houston to host a show that sometimes feels like a late night conversation. In fact, when I asked them about this they said that it’s intentional; that this podcast came about after a few late night conversations. Out of those conversations they decided to start a podcast in order to bring people into the discussion so they could understand the diversity of thought in society; as well as journey together with them as they wrestle with uncovering the truth.
Their most recent shows kept me entertained on my ride to Galveston and many times on the boat when I just needed to relax and I definitely want to encourage to check it out as well as some other great episodes:
“Men get heartbroken too” (Episode 20): This shows their range and ability to be uncomfortable and vulnerable about their situation.
“Boujee but will eat at Chilis” (Episode 8): One of my favorite shows and one where they had a female guest host. It was nice to get some estrogen in the mix.
“Not another hashtag” (Episode 18): This episode touched on some deep social issues affecting our society and their comments really hit home.
Do yourself a favor and check them out on Soundcloud, Google Play and iTunes and follow their social media channels. You won’t be disappointed. In fact, tell them I sent you!
