Another Tuesday, another Spotify playlist!
Every few weeks I’ll find myself going through old Spotify folders and playlists, and yesterday I came across this one from June 2015. That was when I was consistently making seasonal and sometimes even monthly playlists filled with current and old favorites. As I scrolled through this playlist yesterday I realized that I should’ve named it Spring/Summer 2015 because I began adding songs to it as early as May and added my final song to it in September.
I got a time capsule vibe as I went through and listened to this playlist. So many memories as I heard “R.I.C.O.” and realized that there was a time that Drake and Meek Mill got along enough to have a song together. I remember laughing with my friend Jasmine every time we heard “9” by Willow and SZA because one of the random lines in there is “sack of potatoes”. That was also the summer Tori Kelly dropped her ‘Unbreakable Smile’ EP and the summer that gave us Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money”. That was a good time in music! I had old favorites from Marc Broussard (‘Carencro’ will always be that album for me) and Timbaland’s ‘Shock Value II’ (remember when Brandy decided to rap and went by the stage name Bran’Nu?). And who can forget about the “Whip/Nae-Nae” dance? Oh yeah, that’s right everyone has since we’re onto a new dance craze. This was also the summer I was introduced to Kehlani and I spent most of it bumping her music. Take a listen below and get transported back to that summer, and hopefully back to good memories.
Comment below or tweet me and let me know if I’m missing any key songs from that summer and I’ll be sure to add them to my playlist.
