I don’t know about you guys, but I have a hard time taking a compliment. Whether it’s responding with a “it was on sale” when someone compliments my outfit or saying “I do what I can” when someone compliments me at work, I always get all meek and shy when someone gives me a compliment. It’s not that I don’t agree with the people who are complimenting me, I just don’t know how to respond without coming off as too cocky. I feel like we’re conditioned as women to respond that way, but that’s another blog post for another day!
Do you know what’s harder than receiving a compliment? Asking someone for one, especially in the form of a recommendation letter. A good recommendation letter can go a long way and I’ve been relying on them to help me advance in my social life and career since high school. We needed them for Greek organizations, band and I’m not even going to get started on my career. A good recommendation letter from the right person will make your resume stand out in a crowd. Now I’ve gone the traditional route and had co-workers, superiors and even clients give me physical copies of their letters, but I’m a product of my generation and I love digital copies. Whether it’s a (hand signed) PDF copy of the physical letter they wrote, and endorsement or review on LinkedIn and even a compliment on Bullit I love them all.
I found out about Bullit from another blogger and after reading her post I immediately went and checked their site out. Bullit’s described as “the resume for your personality” and I couldn’t agree more. Each user is able to create a unique profile and receive anonymous reviews that show what they’re really like to work with. Users are able to request reviews from their contacts (phone, Facebook or LinkedIn) and have total control of what’s being shown on your profile. You have the ability to approve every anonymous post and that’s something I really like.
I created a profile last week and linked it to my LinkedIn page and it was super easy. All I had to do was login with my LinkedIn credentials within minutes my Bullit profile was active. I hadn’t had time to reach out and ask contacts for reviews, but within days I had my first two reviews and I even had new words added to my word cloud. It was like Christmas morning when I got the notifications that I had two new reviews and I scrambled around the office like a mad woman trying to figure out who wrote them. I still haven’t figured it out, but I guess that’s the point of an anonymous review. Right?
I love the instant gratification that comes with this app, I can send a link to have a co-worker, superior or client write a review after I do something exceptional at work and I’m able to take those words of praise with me wherever I go. It’s like an endorsement for your personality and it’s something I see myself using for a while.
