Every morning when I get into work I wake up my computer and open Outlook at Spotify, in that order too. I don’t know what it is, but I can’t work in silence and I find it hard to go through my morning emails without at least something playing. I typically fall back on my work playlists, but last week while looking at the ‘Browse’ section I saw a playlist curated by Spotify that intrigued me. It was called ‘Lush Vibes’ which sounded perfect for the mellow morning I wanted to have. I went through and clicked on a few of the short tracks (most are about 2 minutes long) and was instantly nodding my head to the beats. A lot of these tracks are mellow instrumentals over a hip-hop percussive beat, something you could’ve found yourself freestyling to in middle or high school. I mean, if you’re into that sort of thing. Kind of a neo-soul vibe with a more percussive beat, which was something I could get behind.
I then noticed at the top next to the description of the playlist they had a related playlist, Jazz Vibes. Y’all!! This playlist was exactly what I needed that day. Now I love big band jazz, but I’m a sucker for smooth jazz. Najee, Norman Brown, Gerald Albright, Boney James, all of those cats have a very special place in my heart and this playlist was giving me those vibes. Like ‘Lush Vibes’, most of the tracks were about 2 minutes long so it didn’t take me long to make it through the entire 100 track playlist, but I didn’t care. In fact, I played it again. I think I listened to that playlist that whole day, and I’ve since gone back and listened to it regularly since.
These playlists are perfect for chill vibes, whether you’re riding around enjoying the great weather outside, spending the evening at home cooking and chilling, or even enjoying your latest read in a bubble bath. They’re mellow, but have just enough kick to keep your hips moving if that’s something you’re into. Feel free to check them out below and tweet me or comment below and let me know what you think!
