It’s President’s Day and it’s another reminder that I’m missing President Obama and his administration something terrible. I know it’s only been a month since he left, but it feels like a lifetime. He’s out vacationing with Michelle and Richard Branson and we’re sitting here looking like those exes who don’t want to let go.
I saw this meme a few weeks ago and almost shed a tear. President Obama is out truly enjoying civilian life, and the rest of us are here just trying to pick up the pieces. Now I’d originally planned on using this post to whine about how much I missed President Obama’s administration, but I decided to highlight some of the his accomplishments.
He was America’s first Black president. I think this one goes without saying, but this accomplishment was huge! Just seeing him in office gave so many children the hope that they too could hold the top office in this great country. He was not only a great president, but he was an awesome husband to Michelle and an amazing father to Sasha and Malia. Oh and don’t forget that Mrs. Marian Robinson was the nation’s Black grandma!
I know that Trump said that he was handed a mess when he took office, but I don’t think that’s true. I believe that President Obama was dealt a bad hand, and turned around as much of it as he could. We experienced the biggest job growth in manufacturing since the 90’s, the American auto industry had breaking sales records and clean energy production doubled. Under the Obama administration unemployment was cut in half and the deficit was cut by 3/4s! ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ was repealed, the affordable care act passed, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act passed and Michelle’s passion project “Let’s Move” helped get kids active and helped get fresh foods back in schools.
We had a president and first family that we were proud of and I wanted to honor them on this day. President Obama and FLOTUS Michelle will forever hold a special place in my heart and will forever be honored in history, especially during Black History Month.
