I know I mentioned that one of my goals for this year was to lose weight, but I wanted to go a bit more in depth on that in this post. I made a promise to myself last year that 2017 was going to be my year of physical change. I got a bit serious about my workout regimen and started taking yoga classes. I even tried a cycling class! I knew that it was time to take control of my health and my life so I bought some new cute workout clothes and gear and got my behind in the gym. Well it took a minute, but I started to see a few results. I was more energetic, I didn’t need to rely on that extra shot of espresso to get me moving in the morning, and I really noticed a difference when I was on the planes to and from Paris. I fit more comfortably in the seats and didn’t always require an belt extender.
I was happy that I started working out when I did because if I hadn’t I don’t think I would’ve been able to do all of that walking that I did while on vacation. I would’ve tapped out and missed so many beautiful sites. And not just abroad, but here at home too. I know I’ve mentioned this before on here but I plan on adopting my kids and I want to start the process within the next 4-5 years. I want older kids so this means that I’ll hit the ground running. I won’t have the time that a lot of parents have when their kids are infants, toddlers and younger to prepare for the booster clubs and extracurricular activities. I plan on being just as involved in my kids’ school lives as my parents were in mine. At all the games, concerts, recitals, everything. I want to be their biggest fan because I know that that’s important and even after all of these years, the support of my parents at all of our activities still stands out.
Now, back to the topic at hand. I took a Zumba class on Tuesday evening after reaching out to one of my cousins when I remembered that she taught them. What started off as a quick exchange of messages turned into me rushing home after work, changing clothes and getting my behind to the nearest YMCA to catch her class. Y’all, I had SO MUCH fun in her class! I don’t think I’ve ever worked out and had it not feel like a workout, but that class felt more like a dance party than it did a workout. We hit the Southside, Josephine Johnny, Harlem Shuffle and even cha-cha’d until we couldn’t anymore. I can honestly say that I had a smile on my face for 98% of Robyn’s class and the remaining 2% was a bit of confusion when I was trying to catch on. She definitely has some regulars who knew the moves, but Robyn made sure that everyone felt comfortable and got the workout they came to receive. She offered alternate moves and kept the music lively, having us dance to Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Keri Hilson, Britney and even Chris Brown. I’m excited to see what we’ll do in the next class.
This is in no way a sponsored post, nor am I bragging because the instructor was my cousin. I have to give credit where credit is due and I can totally see why she’s been teaching at the same Y for 11 years. The girl is good! Please feel free to follow her on Instagram and Facebook. And if you want to drop in on a class you can do so at the Weekley Family location on Tuesday evenings at 5:30pm or Sunday afternoon at 2pm. Come shake it with me!
