I’ve mentioned a few times on the blog that I’ve decided to have a healthier lifestyle. I’ve talked about the Zumba, Yoga and Spinning classes I’ve taken. I’ve talked about ways to get those 10k steps in everyday and even shared some of my favorite workout playlists. As with anything in my life I like to streamline, automate and make things as easy to accomplish as possible. I’ve found that the following four things really work well for me when it comes to keeping myself on track with my new healthy lifestyle and I wanted to share them with y’all.
Accountability partners are amazing – I’m part of a financial accountability group that’s helped me immensely this past year, and I even have an accountability partner at work but it never dawned on me that an exercise partner could give be beneficial too. My girl Meg volunteered tribute and I have to say that since beginning of this month we’ve worked out at least 4 days a week. We use the time to catch up on our lives and it’s been nice seeing her practically daily. We haven’t done that since we were in grade school.
Find the right gym for you – Whether that’s the gym at your office, your home, OTF or even the local Y, find a facility that best suits your needs and join it. Meg and I joined our local Y and have been taking advantage of just about every amenity they offer. Our membership allows us to go to any Y nationwide at any time and use it’s facilities. The location we go to has a pool, basketball court, a huge equipment and weight room, trainers and numerous workout classes. Speaking of classes..
Make it fun – Like I said, I’ve blogged about the workout classes that I take on a regular basis and I love them! I go to an awesome Zumba class at least twice a week and throw in a yoga class or two to balance out my strength training. I’ve found that I’m a class person and it’s nice to have that balance of high energy Zumba to get my daily cardio in before I start my core work on Sundays and Tuesdays. My yoga classes are the perfect cool down for my cardio training on Mondays and Wednesdays. It’s all about balance!
Treat yo’ self – Don’t be afraid to reward yourself when you reach certain goals. Whether it’s microblading for going to the gym consistently for 4 months, a new wardrobe after a year of training or that vacation you’ve been putting off for two years. Treat yourself for your hard work!
Let Snap Kitchen take the guess work out of your meals – I’ve heard numerous times that abs are made in the kitchen and not the gym, and that’s something I truly believe. You guys have seen my relationship progress in the kitchen, but I can honestly say that I’ve hit a bit of a roadblock when it comes to healthy recipes. I’m still learning to find joy in cooking and until recently I was making the same things over and over and it got boring. I’d heard great things about Snap Kitchen, but it wasn’t until I stepped into my local store that I saw what all of the hype was about. My face lit up like a kid at a theme park when I saw how the bright and inviting the store was and saw all of the food options they offered. Houston has 12 locations, but I went to the one smack dab in between my home and office and I was so happy I did. I loved their layout! I was able to work left to right and grab my breakfast, lunch and the coffee I needed to perk me right up. Y’all I had heart eyes when I saw that they had cold brew coffees were made with pecan and almond milk. I’m lactose intolerant so finding lactose free options like that is a huge thing for me!
I wanted to keep things simple and light so I ended up choosing eggs and beef sausage with spinach for breakfast and hot chicken and mac & cheese for my lunch. Delicious doesn’t even begin to describe those dishes. The breakfast beef patties were seasoned so well and the mac & cheese reminded me of Sundays at my granny’s house. They even handle the portions for you! That’s something I’ve been struggling with recently, and Snap Kitchen took the guess work right out of it with their containers clearly labeled with ‘small’, ‘medium’ and ‘large’. Oh, and another thing that I liked was the fact that they use all natural ingredients. The ingredients for each meal are listed online or on the package itself and it’s easy to read and understand. This helps tons with my food allergy! The prices are great and they even have a rewards program that’s free to join. Snap Kitchen has truly made my journey to a healthier lifestyle that much easier.
