We see it every year, “new year, new me”. It’s all over Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. People are making the bold declarations, gyms are full, people are pinning healthier recipes on Pinterest, savings accounts are being opened, you get my drift. Well I’m all for starting fresh, but this year I’m going to focus on improving numerous aspects of my life.
Healthier – I joined my local Y yesterday and have already combed through their long list of classes to schedule my workouts around. That structure is something I look forward to, and I think those classes are what’s going to keep me on the right track. As of now I’ll be alternating between Yoga and Zumba classes and doing cardio and strength training before/after them.
Happier – I know that this is a broad term, but stay with me here. Last year I decided that it was my year to “be happy” and that’s something I want to continue this year. This means that I will continue saying “no” to the things I don’t want to do, and say “yes” to the things I want to do. This means that I will continue to take the time out of my day to just bask in my savior’s presence. This means that I will keep those people in my life that are life-giving and distance myself from those who aren’t. I will continue to embrace the random game nights with friends and happy hours with co-workers. I will continue to strive to be my best self and that means being my happiest self.
Well traveled – I’m sure y’all saw this one coming. I don’t plan on slacking off in the travel department this year. Wanderlust is real and I think I have it. I might be taking a few more solo trips this year, but I’ll share more on that later.
Continued education – I was once told to never stop learning. Even if you think you’re well-versed in your field it doesn’t hurt to take an education course in another one. This year I’ll be working on getting my TREC license amongst other things, and I recently started a Coursera course on branding. I’ve mentioned Coursera on here before, and I love it. They’ve expanded a bit, now you can get certified in a bunch of things if you don’t mind paying the small fee, but they still offer free courses on a long list of topics. Oh! And to help out with my Wanderlust bug I’ll be using my Duolingo app to brush up on my Spanish and another language this year. Duolingo’s another free tool that I recommend if you’re not already using it.
Comfort level in the Kitchen – I posted a few ‘LHJitK‘ posts last year, and I plan on posting more this year. I know that the gym and the kitchen go hand in hand when it comes to body makeovers and I’m hoping to get even more comfortable with my cooking skills this year. I want to add a few more recipes to my repertoire so that I’m not always falling back on the same baked chicken or baked fish with veggies when I’m in a rut.
So, how do y’all plan on tackling your new year’s resolutions? It’s on thing to sit down and make the list, but another to actually come up with a plan of attack. Comment below or tweet me with yours!
