One of the best parts about visiting London was seeing the history there. I traipsed around the city, looking at buildings and streets older than the city I live in and it got me thinking about FX’s new show with Tom Hardy, ‘Taboo‘. In fact, it was when I was sitting at dinner on Saturday night watching the sun set at 4PM that it made me think of how the city might’ve looked during the 19th city. The dark and gloomy backdrop was perfect for what I think will be a Ridley Scott classic.
A time before the city was graced with the light of Big Ben, long before the London Eye was a staple in tourist photos. A time before the indoor plumbing that’s there today, even though the restrooms might have still been in the basements to make use of the small spaces. A time before the streets were littered with the double decker buses the city is known for and before the Tube.
Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney, a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.
I already have a reminder on my calendar to set my DVR for what I believe will be an epic show, and I encourage you guys to do the same.
