I’ve been a fan of this man since 2006 when I was introduced to his music by my friend Megan. We would listen to his album ‘Carencro’ from top to bottom almost weekly and it took us a smooth 2 to 3 years before we learned how to pronounce that album name correctly. In fact, it was Marc who introduced us to Sara Bareilles. He opened for her back in 2008 and we were utterly shocked when we found out that he was the opening act instead of her. Don’t get me wrong, she’s incredibly talented and I’ve loved her music since that show, but Marc has been extremely underrated. He’s the perfect mix of rock and soul and he can shut it down whether he’s doing an acoustic set like he did two weekends ago or if he has a full band behind him. His voice is amazing and he’s an incredibly talented songwriter.
Meg and I have seen Marc just about every time he’s come to town and every time we’re in awe of being able to witness his talent live. He was the guest muscian at the iBurn festival two weekends ago and brought his boys along, and I have to say that it was an interesting vibe singing “Gibby’s Song” and “Gavin’s Song” with them there. As usual there was so much crowd participation, most of us knew the runs he favors when performing live, and it was fun seeing everyone sing along. In fact, that show was so low-key that he did a bit of a ‘Meet and Greet’ afterwards and Meg and I got a chance to take a picture with him.
I wanted to share a few of my favorites songs by him with y’all just to give you a sample of how talented he is. Take a listen below and let me know if you’ve heard of him or if you like his music either in the comment section or on Twitter.
