A few weeks ago my friend Megan and I were tossing around the idea of trying out a spin class. We researched a studios, tried to find one with a beginner class or at least one that wasn’t super intense and we discovered DEFINE studios. There are quite a few locations in Houston and around the nation and there were tons of good reviews, especially at the location we decided to go to. It was fairly close to both of us and when we showed up on Sunday we realized it was a cute studio. It looked small from the outside, but once we got inside I realized that it was pretty big!
We had comp passes since it was our first class and after we filled out the necessary paperwork and got our shoes we were ready to go! I brought my own towel and water with me, but I got caught up in the moment and left my towel in my tote. They were prepared though, and gave me two towels in the room. After getting the bike’s seat adjusted it was time to get my shoes locked in. The staff member who was assisting me tried to get me to relax and allow her to move my legs and feet to lock me in, and while I thought I was relaxed I found out once I started pedaling that I wasn’t.
Y’all, I was not locked into those pedals for the majority of that 45 minute class. I kept moving, but I was definitely adjusting myself a lot. One of my co-workers told me that the seat isn’t the most comfortable thing in the world, but I assumed that because I have a voluptuous backside I would be okay. I was wrong. My lower body is still super sore from the class.
We did a section with free weights and that ended up being one of my favorite parts. I was able to balance myself and work out with the weights for a few songs. Speaking of songs, our instructor had a really good mix playing. A lot of current hits and remixes too. From the look of her computer screen it looked like a Spotify playlist. I’ll have to contact the studio and see if I can find out if it was, and what playlist it was. I was dancing so hard that I eventually locked into my pedals…right when we were cooling down. I screamed “Praise Jesus” internally and then felt kind of bad when I heard her announce that we were cooling down. I was just getting into my stride.
We ended the class and I realized just how sore I was. My legs felt like jello, and like I said earlier I was sore from the waist down. Meg and I chatted with the instructor and Meg and I chatted more when we left. I really enjoyed the studio, and I think I’ll need to take another class to truly decide whether I want to add spinning to my class rotation. Pun intended.
Have y’all ever taken a spin class? If so, did you like it and have you continued the classes? Comment below, email me or tweet me and let me know!
