Last Friday I went to a work happy hour and I ended up choosing one of my favorite bars, Cottonwood. It’s fairly close to the office, great parking and plenty of seating, plus they often have live bands and there’s room for cornhole. But I have to be honest, my main reason for choosing that bar was the snacks. I don’t know about y’all, but I like to snack when I’m out drinking and will often select a bar based on whether they have great appetizers or full meals available. I rounded up a list of a few of my favorite bars and my top food picks there and I wanted to share them with y’all today.
Cottonwood – Boudin balls & chicken fried steak bites. Those two things were the driving force behind me choosing Cottonwood for Friday’s happy hour. They don’t always have great service (it literally took 25 minutes for us to get our drinks when there was a full bar and waitstaff), but the food made it worth it. To me at least.
Eight Row Flint – Street Tacos. So this bar has a taco truck parked in the parking lot. It’s in an area of town that dry, so you have to become a “member” of the bar (let them swipe your license) in order to drink, but it’s totally worth it. Those street tacos were legit.
Cedar Creek – Frickles. There are so many delicious things on their menu, but I love their fried pickles the most. That’s one of my favorite fair foods, and it’s always nice to find a bar or restaurant that does them well.
Christian’s Tailgate – Southwestern Eggrolls. Before I had their eggrolls I’d only ever eaten the ones at Chilis. Well these are just as delicious, if not better! I don’t know if the recipe is different, but I’ve only had the ones from the downtown location so I can only vouch for those.
Hay Merchant – Warm Pretzel and cheese sauce. I went here for a date once and the poor fellow introduced me to this bar and this snack. He didn’t last, but my love of their warm pretzels and cheese sauce did.
