**Warning: If you don’t want to read anything about my uterus please skip this post. Keep on reading if you’re interested, but know that you’ve been warned so don’t let things get weird between us!**
It’s been a few months since my last Mirena post, but I wanted to check in with you guys and give you a follow up. I had a few people reach out to me on Twitter, Instagram and email about my experience and I’m not going to lie it was pretty excited when I saw those messages. Like I said before, I’ve seen so many bloggers share their pregnancy experiences but not many share the other side of the fence so I wanted to break that ceiling and do that.
So, if you haven’t read my previous Mirena post and don’t feel like reading it now, I’ll do a brief recap. I got my implant in last November and didn’t experience too much pain during the procedure. Everybody’s different so that doesn’t mean that you won’t necessarily experience any pain, it just means that I didn’t. I also have an amazing gynecologist and team of nurses who made the procedure so easy. I was also part of the small percentage of women who spot for up to 90 days after implantation. It was never much, but it was annoying as all get out and I started freaking out when it lasted longer than 2 weeks. I called my doctor’s office and spoke to my favorite nurse and she assured me that it was normal and that it would probably happen a little while longer, but there was a really good chance that that would be the end of my bleeding and spotting as long as I had the IUD in. Well she was right. I haven’t used a tampon or liner in months! The spotting is gone and I never thought I’d say that.
I no longer need to buy tampons or liners, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still stock up on Pamprin and other pain meds. I still get cramps around the time I would’ve started my period (I’m still tracking it so I know). I try and head them off like I used to by taking a few ibruprofen before they start and that usually helps. But what I didn’t expect was the minor cramps that come after sex. Nothing too intense, but they’re annoying. After doing a bit of research I found out that that’s common as well, but I’ll take those minor cramps over an unexpected pregnancy any day.
I still think that my Mirena was a great decision and I plan on getting another one in when these five years are up! Do any of y’all have an IUD or another type of long-term birth control? You don’t have to comment on this post but if you want to share your story with me I encourage you to email me.
