No, your eyes aren’t fooling you. I’m talking about the Bad Boy reunion concert for the second week in a row. Last Tuesday I shared my fantasy set list for the show, but when Thursday came around they exceeded my expectations.
I mentioned last week that the tickets were bought at the last minute so Megan and I really didn’t have a lot of time to plan out the evening. We both got off work at 5:30PM so we knew that we wanted to grab a bite to eat before going to show. According to the tickets and the email from the Toyota Center the show was supposed to start promptly at 8PM. We figured that that was highly unlikely given who was performing and got to the arena close to 8:30PM. We made it through security and headed towards the elevators since the seats were purchased were towards the top of the arena. We bought what some would call “nosebleed” seats, more concerned with just being in building than being in floor seats. Well we were heading up in the elevator when a guy walked in with a group of people and asked us if we wanted our seats upgraded for free. Well of course we said yes; we would’ve been fools if we said anything else. The guy handed us the lower level seats and when we got to the section we realized we were right next to the stage. I’m talking reach out and touch the artists when they came to the ramp by us.
Meg and I were geeked before the show started and lost it once it began. We were close enough to feel the heat from the constant flames they had erupting on stage, close enough to yell along with Lil Kim, Diddy, French, and everyone else who came over there and they heard us. I don’t know for sure, but I’m think Meg and I screaming “take your shirt off” to Q from 112 led to him doing just that during their set. I honestly think the best part about our upgraded seats was that we were right by DMX when he came out to watch Carl Thomas perform. He was out there getting his life during Carl’s set like we were.
Speaking of DMX, that was my first time seeing him live and it was everything I ever dreamed of and more. He performed my favorite song and I rapped every word right along with him. I won’t post that video on here because it’s one of his more explicit ones, but just know that I got my entire life from his energetic performance.
For the most part, everyone’s set was energetic that night. Faith came out and gave us the best vocals ever! That woman sounds the same live as she does in the studio. 112 came out and gave us all of their hits, as well as Mase. Total came out and I was truly impressed with them. The Lox and French Montana did a great job as well. And our surprise that night were two of Diddy’s kids. Christian (his middle boy, and the one who looks just like him) was recently signed to the label and he came out and performed his new song with his older brother, Justin as his hype man.
I left that concert without a voice, but I didn’t care. Meg and I said it that night and we’ve said it many times since then, that Thursday night show was TOTALLY worth it.
