I was off work last Friday and one of my favorite movies came on, ‘First Wives Club’. That’s one of those movies that I will watch whenever it’s on TV, no matter how many times I’ve seen it. I can quote the lines with the best of them and love the music that’s featured in the movie. Now I’m sure that’s probably throwing you off since this Tuneage Tuesday post is spotlighting ‘Suicide Squad’, but I’ll explain. Both movies feature a cover of “You Don’t Own Me”, originally done by Lesley Gore. Bette Midler, Diane Keaton and Goldie Hawn did the version in ‘First Wives Club’ and Grace and G-Eazy did the version for ‘Suicide Squad’. In fact, it was Grace’s version that drew me to the soundtrack.
I’d heard “Sucka for Pain” early on and liked the track, but wasn’t sure if I’d like the rest of the soundtrack. Let’s just say that after hearing Grace’s cover and the rest of the soundtrack I was thoroughly impressed! That soundtrack truly has something for everyone. Old school songs like “Slippin into Darkness” by War, early 00’s rap songs like “Without Me” by Eminem, an amazing cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Panic! At the Disco, “Gangsta” by Kehlani. If you haven’t seen the movie, go see it. If you haven’t heard the soundtrack check it out below and let me know what you think!
