Don’t boo…vote!

Last night I stayed up later than I usually do and watched President Obama deliver his speech at the DNC.  I’ve been watching the speeches all week, so I couldn’t miss his.  I knew that it was going to be just as passionate as Joe Biden’s and full of great key points like his wife, and the President didn’t disappoint.

 

We started the week with an emotional speech from the FLOTUS.  A speech that was full of so many great lines and it inspired people and ruffled feathers at the same time.  I saw so many think pieces afterwards about her “I wake up every morning in a house that slaves built” line, but at the end of the day she was telling the truth.  She spoke about how passionate Hillary is about this country’s future, how she’s fought for children, for equal rights for women and races and that when November comes people need to go out and vote.  Don’t just sit at home and publish more think pieces and diatribes about either nominee.  Go out and let your voice be heard.

 

Joe Biden’s speech was another one of my favorites.  I’ve always loved the brotherly relationship between him and President Obama.  They’re so much more than running mates, these two terms have bonded them for life and you can tell in every speech that the VP gives.  Biden praised Hillary for her political achievements and her drive for justice and equality for all, but he also dispelled quite a few myths the Republican nominee has been pushing.  Biden stressed that we shouldn’t be electing anyone who uses fear tactics to get his way.  We as Americans shouldn’t be dividing ourselves and closing our borders to people who don’t look or serve the way we do.  This the land of the free, there’s no national religion or look.  This country’s a melting pot for a reason and we need to keep it that way.  As expected, people booed when Trump’s name was mentioned and Biden being the gentleman that he is encouraged people not to boo, but to get out and vote!

 

President Obama kept up that same tune last night.  Speaking highly of Hillary’s accomplishments both in Washington and outside of it.  He flat out said that she’s the most qualified candidate for the job, and between her and Trump I agree.  He spoke about how far this country has come in the 8 years since he’s been in office, and how much further we can go with Hillary and Tom Kaine in office.  He flat out said “Don’t boo, vote”.  That was one of those drop the mic moments and I hollered like I was in church.  Say it again for the people in the back, sir!  Don’t boo, vote!  Get out and exercise your right.  And don’t just focus on the President and Vice President, check into those senate and representative seats that are up for re-election.  The quickest way to make a change to your local community is to get new reps.

 

I look forward to hearing Hillary speak tonight, and I look forward to this November.  It’s time to put our money where our mouths are (hypothetically speaking) and vote for the candidates we need.
