I’ve lived in Houston most of my life and the summers here can be a bit unbearable without the right essentials. Working full time means that I don’t get the long summer breaks that I used to get when I was in school, but that doesn’t mean that my essentials have changed. Whether it’s something as simple as a fun manicure to make my work day brighter, or the perfect crossbody for all of the shows and festivals that fill the summer these are my go-to items.
Water bottle – Heat and humidity are not my friends, and a reusable water bottle saves my behind on a daily basis. This one holds 24oz and the double insulation keeps it from sweating…I just wish it did the same for me.
Bright nail polish – So I’m not sure if this is your typical summer color. In fact, it’s one of my absolute favorites that I reach for all year. I don’t know what it is about this blue, but it looks great on me. I actually just took it off after wearing it for 2 weeks, and I’m sure I’ll be reaching for it again next month.
Sun block – I learned my lesson the hard way when I was marching in high school that I not only tan easily, but I also burn easily. My foundation has plenty of SPF in it, but I make sure that I’m wearing at least 50 SPF if I’m going to be outside for an extended period of time.
Fun sunnies – I feel like I’ve talked about ordering my glasses online numerous times on this blog. I recently ordered two pairs of prescription sunglasses and I’ve been rocking my mirrored ones a lot. They have gold accents, something I’ve stayed away from in the past, but I’m constantly grabbing these.
Portable charger for my phone – Between days at the beach, Pokemon hunting, girls nights out and music festivals my phone can’t keep up. I can’t be that girl who’s in the middle of a show and can’t snap the artist singing her favorite song, or not be able to book an Uber after a night of drinking so I make sure that I have my portable charger. This particular one came highly recommended from Amazon and is probably one of the best tech purchases I’ve made in a long time. I got 4 full charges on my phone and 2 on my iPad. It’s paid for itself a few times over at this point.
Crossbody purse – I came across a bag at Marshall’s a few months back and knew that I had to have it. It’s perfect when I need to be hands free (traveling, concerts), it’s a neutral color that goes with everything and it’s big enough to hold everything I need!
Comfy shoes – Whether they’re sandals or TOMS, I make sure that I have comfy shoes on or with me at all times. You never know when a pub crawl might happen or if you get last minute GA tickets to a show. I’ve been rotating through the cute slip-on TOMS I bought a month ago and I always get compliments. I feel like I’m walking on cloud 9 literally and figuratively.
