I’d seen the post floating around Facebook for a while, but I never paid any mind to it because I thought it was one of those spammy posts. You know, like the sunglasses one that pops up every time someone’s account gets hacked and the hacker tags all of their friends. Yeah, those. Well I was browsing through Facebook yesterday when I came across a post from a friend from high school saying that she’d purchased 11 pairs of TOMS shoes for less than $100. I was immediately intrigued and clicked the comment section to find out more. Their women’s slip-ons start at about $50 so I wanted to know how this was possible. She posted a picture of the her purchase, 11 pairs of shoes different sizes for her kids and herself. She said that there was a TOMS warehouse sale going on at NRG center in town (in fact, not far from my house) and all of the shoes were $8. That’s right, every pair of shoes only cost $8. Slip-ons, boots, booties, sandals, sneakers, all of them. All of the shoes! I messaged her to see if she saw any shoes in the larger sizes (I’m a size 10 and she’s like a 7) and when she told me that not only did they have a lot of shoes available, but they were still opening boxes and adding shoes out on the floor I made plans to go after work. I texted one of my best friends, a cousin and even told a few co-workers and sure enough after work we all headed that way.
Apparently the sale had been going on all weekend and the prices dropped each day. Shoes that retail for $100+ were $40 the first day, $30 the second and so on and so on. Monday was the final day of the sale in Houston and in an effort to get rid of as much stock as they could everything was $8. I’m not gonna lie, I expected absolute chaos in there but I was pleasantly surprised by how calm and in order it was. There were boxes of shoes everywhere, separated by ‘men’, ‘women’, ‘children’, and then by size. There were even benches everywhere so people could sit down and try on shoes! And y’all, there were so many shoes!! We were given clear bags when we first walked in to put our shoes in and I grabbed 2 just in case, and I’m happy I did because we ended up needing it. I bought 11 pairs of shoes!
I’d been eyeing the cognac booties from TOMS since they released them years ago and I not only grabbed them in cognac, but I grabbed a cute gray/metallic pair and a black pair. I also snagged a few slip-ons and a pair of black leather sneakers. Yeah, you read that right. Leather sneakers for $8. I honestly couldn’t believe it. I was pretty impressed by this event and have already told people that they need to go to Dallas when it’s there next month. Not only did they have shoes, but they had sunglasses, shirts and apparently bags until they ran out. And the best part about it was that they were still doing the ‘One for One’, so a pair will be donated for every pair sold (discounted or not). How awesome is that? The charity aspect of this company was always what drew me to them.
From what the checkout clerk said, this is supposed to be an annual event and I personally can’t wait for them to come back next year. Check out their website and see when they’re coming to a city near you!
