My love of live music is pretty evident around these parts, so when I received an email from Ticketmaster about a class action suit my interest was piqued. I read the lengthy email and checked out the site so I’ll paraphrase it for y’all. Five people filed a suit against Ticketmaster claiming that their processing and UPS fees are outrageous (which they are) and the plaintiffs won. As a result Ticketmaster had to issue $386 million in discount codes and free tickets to events! This was one of those settlements that you had to opt out of, and if I’m not mistaken anyone who purchased tickets from Ticketmaster between October 21, 1999-Feburary 27, 2013 should be eligible for the discount codes and free tickets. For more details about the settlement check out this site, and log in to your Ticketmaster account to see if the vouchers have already been added!
Each voucher for free tickets is for 2 GA tickets, so I’m going to assume it’s for shows at smaller venues. I doubt Ticketmaster would include GA tickets at a Beyonce or Drake arena show in this settlement, you know? We have quite a few smaller venues in Houston and I would not be opposed to seeing someone for free at the House of Blues, Warehouse Live or the Revention Music Center. In fact, I just went and saw Tori Kelly and ThirdStory at the Revention Music Center a few months ago and really enjoyed myself. Discount codes for $2.25 were also sent out and that might not sound like a lot, but they’ll add up and I’m assuming that those can be used for tickets to bigger shows.
According to Ticketmaster we have a few years to use the tickets, but I’ll definitely try to go to at least one free concert (as soon as they release the list of shows) and I might even take one of my girls. Pair these tickets with a quick meal and drinks before and that’s an instant girls night out! Hopefully I’ll be able to use the codes to go with Meg and see Marc Broussard the next time he comes to town, or with Millican the next time Tori Kelly comes to town, or I might even treat a cousin to a local show at the House of Blues. So many options!
So check your emails (the one associated with your Ticketmaster account), log in and see how many discount codes you have and get to planning!
