It’s Friday so y’all know what that means. Another weekend and it’s the first official one of Summer. Where has the time gone? This year is is going by so quickly.
So much has happened this past week but I wanted to share this five things with y’all.
Season 4 of ‘Orange is the New Black’ was released a week ago. Like a lot of people I binge watched it last weekend. I could be really rude and post spoilers, but I’m not going to do that because I know not all of my readers have finished the season. I will say that this season is so much better than last season. I feel like season 3 was a whole lot of filler episodes, a lot of backstories, and season 4 is back to the formula that got us hooked from the beginning. So many heartstrings were pulled this season and I full on cried for a few episodes. I want to re-watch it to see if I missed anything, but I don’t know if I could do it knowing what I know about the end of the season. Sidenote: I know I’ve mentioned this before on Twitter and Facebook, but there was a song that was played at the end of the last episode that I have had on regular rotation since Sunday. It’s “Muddy Waters” by LP and I wanted to share it with y’all.
I’m speaking about Mint.com at my financial accountability meeting tomorrow. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten up in front of a group and spoken about something, especially something as awesome as that budgeting tool. I have my notes and a Power Point presentation prepared, so fingers crossed I don’t flub things up too much.
Todrick Hall released a visual album yesterday. A fifty-seven minute video on Youtube for the tour that he’s putting on this summer, ‘Straight Outta Oz’. The man is beyond talented, a creative and musical genius, and while he’s done many great things in the past this was my favorite project of his. He’s said that the ‘Wizard of Oz’ story has always been a huge inspiration for him and you could definitely tell that with this visual album. It was all new music, some of them were Oz themed, but they were songs pertaining to his life. He even brought along some friends. Amber Riley, Jordan Sparks, Shanice Williams, Nicole Scherzinger and quite a few other faces you’ll recognize. Do yourself a favor and watch it, it’s well worth the hour.
I made a career move last week and I’m so excited! It won’t officially take place until next month (counting down the days) but to know that I’ll on track to achieve my career goals in a few short years is amazing. I plan on writing a post about this so I don’t want to give too much away now, just know that I’m happy!
Democratic sit-in. So unless you were living under a rock yesterday and Wednesday you heard about the Democratic sit in after the House adjourned to address the gun control issue. Some called it a publicity stunt, others were calling out Elizabeth Warren for bringing donuts to feed her fellow Democrats, but most of the people I spoke with and follow on various social sites were happy that this was happening. I stand in full support with my rep Sheila Jackson Lee. She might still be rocking that same cinnabun braid since 1988, but she stands…or sits…for what’s right! Folks claimed that nothing was going to be done about gun control since nothing was done after the Sandy Hooks shooting, and it’s sad that it took another mass shooting like this to get people to open up their eyes and realize that there needs to be a change with those laws. I’m not saying that guns need to be made illegal, but if ‘Orange is the New Black’ can joke about how easy it is to buy an assault rifle at your local Walmart-esque establishment (only a slight exaggeration) then that needs to be changed. When it’s harder to buy solar panels for your house than it is to buy an assault rifle we have a problem. I just hope that we can all come to an agreement and soon because something needs to be done.
Whew! Like I said, it was an eventful week. I’m ready for a relaxing weekend and I’d love to hear y’alls plans. Feel free to comment below and let me know your thoughts or plans!
