I mentioned this on Monday, but I wanted to go a bit more in depth about my yoga experience with y’all. Before Sunday I hadn’t been to a class in years so it was like I was new to it. I met up with one of my co-workers at YogaOne in the Heights for and early morning flow class.
Lauren was the instructor and was the sweetest ever. She helped me set up before class and encouraged me to take things at my own pace. She told me that she’d show alternative poses to do if I wasn’t able to do the ones the rest of the class was doing. She reminded me to listen to my body and breathe, that’s what was most important. So I was set up in the back of the class, behind my co-worker and a class full of people who had way more yoga experience than me.
Now I must admit that I was intimidated a few times during the class. I watched as my classmates bent their bodies in ways I never thought bend mine and even though I feel like I did a decent stretch I couldn’t do the same. I tried my hardest and definitely worked my body harder than I thought since I’m still feeling the burn in my core and thighs today, but I think I need to take a fundamentals class before I jump head first into another flow or hot yoga class.
I plan on taking another class with one of my girls next week and if I like it again I’ll sign up with a studio. Apparently the 30 for $30 plans are popular here in Houston so I’ll get as many classes I can get in during the 30 day period and decide on a different membership package after that.
Now I just need to get some yoga basics so if you have any suggestions for mats, clothes, etc comment below or email me and let me know!
