I’ve been hinting at writing this post since I got back from Canada so I feel like it’s long overdue. I had plans on writing it sooner, but between work and the unprecedented flooding that’s happened in Houston this past week I just couldn’t make the time. Well all of that changes today.
When I told people that I was going to Vancouver the first questions out of their mouths were usually “Do you know anyone up there?” or “Any particular reason you’re going up there?” and both times the answer was “no”. We didn’t know anyone in Vancouver, we just wanted to get away and Vancouver was super affordable! Roundtrip tickets from Texas were less than $350 and we had the cutest AirBNB downtown.
I left Houston on Wednesday evening for Dallas and flew out of DFW with on of my good friends from undergrad. Our flights up to Vancouver went off without a hitch and we touched down in Canada around 1PM. One of her childhood friends was also joining us on the trip, but wouldn’t be coming in until the next day so we had some time to kill before she got in. We had a loose itinerary so we decided to explore the city a bit by foot that first day. We even made it to a local movie theater and watch ‘The Boss’. That movie was HILARIOUS!!! I’m pretty sure we were the loudest ones in the theater. I usually just get the standard popcorn and soda when I go to movie theaters, but that day I switched it up and got pulled pork poutine. When in Rome, y’all!
With the suggestions of my new manager we were able to do the tourist thing. We went to FlyOver Canada, Capilano Suspenion Bridge, China Town and a few other tourist-y spots. We essentially walked, ate and drank our way through the city and every day I thank God for the exchange rate because I spent less than I thought I would. Check out some of my favorite pictures below.
Have any of y’all visited Vancouver? Was there anything that we missed that we should see the next time we go? Comment below or email me with your suggestions.
