My hair is currently in crochet twists, but I still wanted to share a few of my favorite hair products with y’all. I wash my hair weekly and use shampoo every other wash. I am pretty obsessed with Head & Shoulder’s Moisture Care Co-Wash (I’ve actually repurchased it since receiving and reviewing it on here last year) and their 2-in-1 is great too but I love the co-wash. I also use Aussie Moist conditioner, it’s been a staple of mine for the past 6 years. Great slip and the product lives up to it’s name, super moisturizing.
I don’t use a towel to dry my hair, they’re too coarse for my follicles, I use old t-shirts (yay for old greek screen printed tees). Then comes time to detangle and put in two-strand twists. I’ve loved a good twist out since I was transitioning and I feel like I’ve mastered them. I detangle my hair with Olive Oil Girls (their natural line) hair pudding and either my Denman brush or my Tangle Teezer. I’m a huge fan of EVOO in the kitchen and on my head so I’ll use that to seal the ends of my twists with that and roll it with perm rods.
It usually takes my hair about 18 hours to air dry so I typically wash my hair on Sunday mornings and leave it twisted up all day. Like most naturalistas, I know that shrinkage is real so that first twist out day my hair is super short and the curls are tight. I just throw on a headband or I’ll top knot it if the curls are still too damp. By day 3 or 4 my curls are popping…just in time for the weekend.
That’s my usual hair routine, but one of the perks of having natural hair is how versatile it is. Ask any one of my co-workers or friends and they’ll tell you how much I love a good top knot and how I’ll occasionally rock a wash-n-go. I used to love them, but then I realized how brittle they made my curls. It wasn’t until recently that I realized that a good wash-n-go boils down to the products. A few months back I received Dove’s Supreme Crème Serum in a Target Beauty Box and fell in love with it! It’s super moisturizing and gives my curls much needed life after a long stretch. There have been times that I’ve gone two weeks without a wash and you couldn’t even tell with this serum in my hair. I don’t know if I use too much a time, but I can burn through a bottle of this stuff in about 2 weeks. I don’t even care though, it’s well worth the $5 investment. I’ve repurchased this a few times since receiving it in the beauty box.
I know that I’ve shared a few links in this post, but I promise I’ve paid for it all. This is not a sponsored post, I just wanted to share some of my favorite products with y’all. Are there any naturalistas out there that want to share some of their favorites with me? Shoot me an email or comment below!
