I came across this article on Monday and I immediately knew I wanted to do an answer back type post on it. The author states that these resolutions can be done in a day but I disagree, I feel like it would take more like a week or two. Well, for me at least. There are a few that I’ve done already, and there are a few that I have lined up to finish up within the next two weeks.
- Try a new recipe – I actually have a post coming tomorrow about this. I’ve recently started using eMeals and have cooked almost daily and made the most delicious meals. I made a resolution to find joy in cooking and this is a resolution I plan on keeping this year.
- Do a random act of kindness – I was just talking about this with a co-worker of mine. I am a firm believer in good and bad karma and love to do ROAKs on a regular basis. Whether it’s paying for a tenant’s breakfast or paying for the Starbucks order of the person behind me. Every little bit counts.
- Complete a project from your pinterest board – This is something else I was talking about with a friend. A few years back I wanted to give all my friends homemade hot cocoa mixes in a mason jar for Christmas, but never did it. That’s something super simple and I feel like it’s something I can do. It may not be hot cocoa, but I have a shindig this weekend with some of my girls and I want to bring a pinterest project with me when I go.
- Quit a bad habit – I feel like this will be a hard one. Not only do I have to narrow down a bad habit, but I have to quit it. Stay tuned for that.
- Eat more vegetables – This one will be easy, I love veggies! I prefer them to fruits and it’s not odd for me to have two with each meal.
- Write in a journal – I haven’t kept a physical journal in years, but I feel like this blog is a bit like a journal so I’ll be sure to keep up with my resolution to be more present on it.
- Go on a tech-free friend date – On new year’s day I went to brunch with a group of friends and it wasn’t until one of them called all of us out and told us to put down our phones that we realized we were all glued to the little screens. I’m going to make a regular habit of tech-free outings with my crew.
- Spend more time outside – This is another one that I’ll have to get better at doing. I’m at work during most daylight hours during the week so I have to make a habit of spending more time outside on the weekends. I live near a few parks and I love a good stroll or jog.
- Read a new author – I can’t resist a good James Patterson book, and it doesn’t help that he releases 3-4 books a year, but I want to get lost in a book by an author whose work I’ve never read before. There are a few sequels that are on my “to read” this year, but I’ll put those on the back burner and find a new author to read. Any suggestions?
- Read one of the classics – I was talking to a co-worker today about how difficult it is to get through Shakespeare, and while I don’t plan on picking up the Bard of Avon’s greatest work I do want to pick up another classic.
- Experience a new culture – I have a few international vacations planned this year that should cover this resolution.
- Visit a place you’ve never been before – See previous answer.
- Watch a movie you’ve never seen – Netflix ftw! I can’t tell you how many movies I’ve seen that I would’ve never heard of had it not been for Netflix. In fact, I saw two over the Christmas holiday that I want to recommend to y’all, ‘Rob the Mob‘ and ‘Plastic‘.
- Write down things that you love about yourself – I’ll add these to the affirmations I write and place around my place.
- Give compliments to those around you – This is easy, they make it easy.
- Stop cursing – This one might actually be the habit I break…at least partially. I’ve heard that it’s not “ladylike” but some situations call for it. I’ll just try to find myself in fewer of those situations.
- Take a class – I think work will have this one covered.
- Learn a skill – Sewing possibly? Learning how to hem a pair of pants or sew a button back on wouldn’t hurt me.
- Cut back on alcohol – I feel like I’ve cut back over the years, so I’ll just maintain that.
What about y’all? What are some realistic, yet specific resolutions you’re thinking about keeping this year.
