Tis the season to spread love and cheer! Thanksgiving is days away and Christmas is only a few weeks from now. Now’s the time of year we reflect on the year and what we’re grateful for. Now’s the time we celebrate and give back to those we care about. I’m part of a very close-knit team at work we’re all for spreading holiday cheer with festive trees, tinsel and a twerking Santa, but we don’t want to share germs or the flu. We have boxes of Kleenex on every desk and two in our collaboration station. Our open area can be a breeding ground for illnesses like the cold or the flu, and though we all got flu shots we don’t want to take any chances.
It doesn’t take much to get the entire office sick, especially with the open environment we have. A sick baby at daycare, a spouse picking up something from their own workplace and bringing it home, anything really. We found that the best way to do that was to follow the simple steps we learned in school long ago.
Wash your hands often – Yes, we all know that we need to wash our hands after we use the restroom, but we also need to do it before and after we eat. Vendors and tenants love to bring us goodies around this time of year (#workperks) and I’m not sure about y’all, but we snack a lot in the office. This means we’re washing our hands a lot!
Hand Sanitizer is a life saver – I’m sure this one is pretty self-explanatory, but working in project management means we see a lot of workers. We have GC’s in and out of our space, along with architects, engineers, elevator techs and so many other workers every day. I can’t always escape to the restroom to wash my hand after handshakes, but I can squeeze in a quick pump of hand sanitizer.
Drink water – Our bodies need it, and even though it feels like the office runs on coffee most days we drink our share of water too. We favor our Yeti’s around these parts and I even have a co-worker who carries around a glass jug full of water. Staying hydrated is an easy way to stay healthy during this cold and flu season.
Kleenex – I feel like I can’t say enough great things about Kleenex. So many different options like their Anti-Viral line and their Ultra Soft line; and they have multiple sized boxes so it fits on desks as full as mine…
…or minimalistic ones like my co-worker’s.
I favor the Ultra Soft ones they feel great on my nose since it peels a lot this time of year, but the Anti-Viral ones are great too!
We like to stock up so we tend to head to Sam’s for our Kleenex tissues (thank you business membership). You can’t beat the great prices on this stock pile item, even though it isn’t much of a stock pile for us. Between our team of eight we go through this multi-pack in about two months.
I feel like these tips are pretty well-known, so what do you guys use in your offices to keep germs from spreading? What’s your favorite kind of Kleenex? Comment below and let me know!
