I have a special treat for y’all today. I don’t do that many blogger tutorials, I’m usually the one taking advantage of another blogger’s knowledge and utilizing their tips, but I didn’t see anything about this topic. A few weeks back I had a blog consultation with Neely and she recommended I change the URL for my ‘About Me’ page. This wasn’t anything I’d thought about before, but she mentioned that companies aren’t plugging the phrase “about me” into Google when they’re looking for bloggers to collaborate with, they’re searching for SEO phrases like “Southern lifestyle blogger” or “Houston lifestyle blogger”. A light bulb went off in my mind when she said that, it made so much sense and I knew that I wanted to get mine changed. She then followed it up with the question of whether my blog was hosted on Blogger or WordPress, saying that it was a super easy process to change the URL in WordPress but she wasn’t sure of the process in Blogger. Feeling a bit discouraged I put a pin in making the change until she mentioned it on her blog. It was then that I decided that I needed to make this change and dug around on Google until I found one. I ended up finding an old but helpful Youtube clip and got the URL changed! I couldn’t believe that not many people have blogged about it and wanted to create a step-by-step tutorial just in case you guys don’t want to watch the almost 6 minute clip; follow along below and let me know if you have any questions.
1. Navigate to your pages tab in Blogger and open your current ‘About Me’ page.
2. View the page in HTML format and copy the entire page of code. Save this for later.
3. Navigate back to the ‘Pages’ section of the Blogger dashboard and add a new page. This will be your new ‘About Me’ page.
4. Title your page whatever your want your new URL to be. I’ve already changed my URL to ‘Houston Lifestyle Blogger’ so I chose ‘Southern Lifestyle Blogger’ for this example. As quickly as you can, type your selected SEO phrase in the title bar and the body of the page and hit ‘Publish’.
5. Once you hit ‘Publish’ you’ll see the new page with show up in your list of pages. Don’t get discouraged, we’ll be changing the name back to ‘About Me’ shortly.
6. Edit your new ‘About Me’ page (it will still be whatever phrase you chose) and paste the HTML code from your other ‘About Me’ page.
7. Now we change your title to ‘About Me’, go ahead and change it and hit Publish. Once you do you’ll see two ‘About Me’ pages in your list, but don’t worry you will be able to differentiate between them by the date/time stamp.
8. Now we make the page active on your page. Go to the Layouts tab on the Blogger dashboard and edit the ‘Pages’ section of your layout. A ‘Configure Page List’ dialog box will pop up and from there you’ll be able to select your new ‘About Me’ page and drag and drop it to the correct position in your lineup.
9. Make sure you save all your changes and go look at your new handiwork! Pat yourself on the back and pour yourself a glass of wine.
I hope that this tutorial was helpful, and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to leave a comment or email me. No go forth and be searchable with your awesome SEO trick.
